Precipitation Winter Group Show

Telluride Arts invites local and regional artists to exhibit their work at Telluride Arts Headquarters as part of the upcoming winter group exhibition, Precipitation.

About Precipitation

Water is integral to life in Telluride.

It shapes our rivers, carves our mountains, and forms the backdrop to countless memories. We celebrate the first flakes of the season, watch the forecast with anticipation, and look forward to the transformation of the landscape each winter. In summer, monsoon rains nourish the high country, fill our streams, and bring wildflowers into bloom across the mountainsides. From winter snow to summer rain, precipitation has always shaped this place—and the way people live here. It has influenced agriculture and tourism, fishing and rafting, snow sports and recreation, traditions, and the stories that make up Telluride's history.

Precipitation invites artists to explore our longstanding and ever-evolving relationship with water in all its forms across the San Juan Mountains.

The exhibition considers Telluride's past, present, and future—from the miners and ranchers who endured long, demanding mountain winters to the skiers and snowboarders who now chase powder. Water remains essential to our local economy, culture, recreation, and daily life. At its heart, Precipitation is an opportunity to reflect on the character of a place where weather and water have always played a powerful role in shaping how people live, work, gather, and celebrate.

Following an unusually dry winter and a summer marked by wildfire, this year's anticipation of snow carries an added resonance. But Precipitation is not an exhibition about what we've lost. It is about looking up, looking out, and waiting for winter to arrive. With a strong El Niño pattern anticipated for the coming season, there is room for optimism, imagination, and perhaps a little old-fashioned snow dance.
