Telluride Arts Grant Recipient: Art for art’s sake, 2025

Cuéntame, Copita is a ceramic arts project composed of 15 handcrafted, functional pottery pieces (cups, plates, and vessels) engraved with iconography and text that reflect Dominique’s bicultural identity as a Latina raised near the Andes Mountains and now living in the San Juan Mountains.

The work includes poetic phrases, folk sayings, and lyrics that explore migration, memory, and belonging. A key element of the project was the gathering of testimonies from immigrants in the Telluride region. The final series serves as a visual and tactile archive of immigrant narratives.

Dominique first arrived in Telluride in 2008 as a seasonal worker for the ski resort. After returning to the region permanently, she has spent the last nine years building deep roots in the community. She currently works at Wilkinson Public Library, where she helps connect the Latino and immigrant communities with essential resources and cultural programming.

Her project Cuéntame, Copita reflects the intersection of her personal and creative journey, bridging the Andes of her childhood with the Rockies she now calls home. Through collaborative ceramic work, she seeks to honor immigrant narratives and build a tactile archive of voice, memory, and belonging.
