TELLURIDE ARTS HEADQUARTERS

Established on November 17, 1971 as the Local Arts Council, the Telluride Council of the Arts and Humanities was the first non-profit in the region. Since its conception, the organization has served to incubate a culture of the arts that has come to define Telluride.

We welcome the community to utilize our gallery spaces on Telluride’s iconic main street, while we continue our efforts to transform the Transfer Warehouse, a National Historic Landmark, into a public Center for the Arts.

Built in the 1890’s and formerly owned by its namesakes the Pekkarines, the building once housed the only dry goods store in Telluride and the area’s most renowned cobbler. It has since acted as a gallery space and a commercial store front, was home to Telluride’s iconic Between the Covers bookstore for nearly 50 years, and now operates as the headquarters for Telluride Arts.

While each space retains the history of its forebearers, the galleries are unique in their aesthetics. 220 W Colorado [Gallery East] is more rustic in nature, from the exposed brick wall and slatted wood ceiling to the rustic wooden floors. It’s perfect for intimate gatherings, cocktail receptions, and fundraising happy hours.

In contrast, 224 W Colorado [Gallery West] holds an easy sophistication in its historical presence. With its white-washed walls, exposed brick in the lounge, and refinished rustic wooden floors, the space is versatile in its elegant simplicity.
