2011 Small Grant Award Recipients

1. Soda Kiln Construction by Goedele Vanhille

Ceramic Sculpture by Goedele Vanhille

Goedele will build a high-fire downdraft soda kiln outside her Norwood studio. One of the most accomplished artists in region, Goedele also has a strong history of education and public outreach and plans to continue by sharing the kiln with students and other artists.

2. Large Outdoor Sculpture by Duncan Mackenzie

Duncan will make a large scale outdoor sculpture. The sculpture will be a  3 large steel flowers  growing out of a large flower pot. The flowers will be approximately 8 ft tall with fully open blooms and leaves on the stems. Duncan is an accomplished artist with great track record of well executed projects. The sculpture being built will be shared with the public in temporary public exhibit located in Telluride or region.

3. Mosaic Fellowship by Flair Robinson

Sweetie Chair by Flair Robinson

Flair will learn how to create 3-dimensional concrete substrates for mosaic sculpture that are appropriate for outdoor display in all climates.  She will create a durable and unique 3-dimensional mosaic sculpture of significant proportions. Flair is an accomplished mosaic and mixed media artist. Her innovative creative idea will expand on skill base to take work to this next stage. Flair shares work with the public in many ways–as a teacher, mentor, and strong exhibitor locally and elsewhere. She exhibits at the Stronghouse and Ah Haa and Tag Bazaar among others.

4. Baptême de Feu by Anton Viditz-Ward

Fire Wheel by Anton Viditz-Ward

Bapteme de Feu is a twenty-four foot diameter, steel spinning bowl of fire. There will be a steel scaffolding  built above to drop burning fire wood onto the spinning bowl. It is similar to spin art, where a canvas is spun and paint is poured onto the spinning canvas. Anton is a highly innovative artist who accomplishes bold projects that are well received by the public. He has an excellent track record for producing high quality work and sharing both his skills and work with the public. This project will be shared at Deep Creek Mine and Burning Man. There may be other opportunities to share at other venues locally.

5. Cool Sculpt Prize Money by Andy Kreuger

Cool Sculpt offers artists from the region an opportunity to participate in a well received community event. Small grant funds will be awarded to winning artists and artist teams.

6. Lenticular Fractals by Judy Haas

Fractals by Judy Haas

Judy will produce a multi tile lenticular, with the fractals that she creates. Judy produces very high quality work and this proposal will advance her work and skills. Judy exhibits and sells work broadly. This work will be shared at the Stronghouse Gallery in solo exhibit and other venues determined by the artist.

7. Photos on Bags by Amy Levek

Cacti by Amy Levek

Using photos printed on fabrics, Amy will collaborate with a fiber artist to create usable art pieces – bags, clutches and other items – that will use Amy’s original photography. Amy is an accomplished artist with a strong track record executing quality and innovative work. This project will expand her skills and build on solid photography foundation.

8. Romancing the Stoned Music Video by Patrick Falsenthal

Patrick APOC Falsenthal

Patrick will produce a music video for his original song: Romancing the Stoned. The project will broaden the reach of his music by being shared on You Tube and other venues.   Patrick’s work is innovative, smart and funny. His well crafted proposal provided evidence that that project will be well executed.
