Explore silk dyeing techniques to create colorful prayer flags and scarves.
Discover the magical, colorful world of silk dyeing and batik. Spend four evenings (plus optional open studio time on weekends) learning about color, surface design, silk painting, wax resist, shibori, and other silk dyeing techniques, culminating in a final prayer-flags project. Dyes used during class are appropriate for silk and wool, as well as fabric blends that contain silk and wool. Finished pieces will be dry cleaned to remove wax, and then dye set. (Please budget an additional $8 per piece for dry cleaning.) The materials fee includes seven scarves/fabric pieces, with the option of purchasing more fabric from the instructor. This class is limited to six students.
Open Studio work times will be available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the course – dates and times TBD.
PLEASE NOTE: This class is at the Stone Building (not at Ah Haa). Materials fee covers seven scarves/fabric pieces.
