Using combined processes and collaged materials, students will turn ordinary junk and textured scraps into dynamic, layered printmaking plates. Collograph plates are made by creating a collage of textured materials – think spaghetti, tinfoil, cloves, or buttons – and then sealing it with polyurethane to create a unique printing plate. Using these plates, students will explore different printmaking techniques for creating depth, pattern, ghost images, and color range. Students will emerge with a number of prints and the skills to create more.
