A hands-on workshop using traditional and experimental techniques from Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
High Flow: Paper Marbling is a hands-on workshop that explores the colorful practice of paper marbling using experimental and traditional techniques. Participants will discover the joy of creating beautifully marbled patterns through a series of simple lessons and demonstrations. Class will begin with an introduction to methods found throughout parts of Asia, using sumi-ink on cotton rag and hand-made papers. In addition, students will learn marbling methods inspired by European and Middle Eastern traditions using modern acrylic inks on a carrageenan (seaweed extract) size. All are encouraged to let the flow of the process lead to new discovery! Participants will leave with their own marbled creations and a takeaway instructional guide for future paper marbling projects.
Derek will also present a free demonstration and artist talk at the Wilkinson Public Library on June 20 at 6pm.
This is a Visiting Artist class, therefore cancellations must be made more than 45 days in advance in order to qualify for a refund (less a $25 administrative fee).
