Ah Haa School for the Arts | 300 S Townsend St
Friday-Sunday, March 4-6 | Friday 6-7pm, Saturday 10am-4pm & Sunday 10am-2pm | $295 tuition
The Ah Haa School presents the first 2016 Masterclass Series – an opportunity to engage deeply with unique and established artists working in different mediums during a weekend-long Masterclass visit. Masterclass weekends will begin with a Friday public lecture by the artist, followed by a Saturday workshop and a Sunday critique and discussion.
Visiting artist Pinkney Herbert will present a Masterclass workshop on seeing and painting in abstract ways by drawing inspiration from nature or intuitive imagination. Working in acrylics, students will experiment with different techniques and methods within the realm of abstract painting. Pinkney will encourage students to suspend judgement in order to liberate their painting process and experience. On Sunday, Herbert will host a critique and follow up discussion.
On Friday, March 4, Pinkney will present a public lecture entitled: Paintings in Conversation with the History of Abstraction. This lecture will be free and open to the public, and will explore Herbert’s own practice in relation to the wider ongoing history of abstract painting.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will need to bring materials including acrylic paints and canvases. A full list of student materials will be sent to enrolled students.
