Immerse yourself in the beauty of Telluride’s landscape during this plein air painting intensive, part of Ah Haa’s Telluride Painting School.
The landscape is a perfect foray into painting. The spaces of figurative and abstract painting alike derive from the landscape. At a time when most landscape is threatened, there is a renewed interest in it as a painting vehicle. We have an optimism that a sense of the earth we live on and a poetic order derived from its study will help result in a future and continued relationship to it.
Painting en plein air, students will immerse themselves in the beauty of the landscape. Telluride provides literally 360-degree views in some of America’s most beautiful mountains and countryside. One gasps at the view and responds in painting. Students will study the basics of landscape painting through color, composition, materials and criticism. Students will be encourage to establish an individual response to the landscape informed by the principles and traditions of American landscape painters.
Using oils, students will paint 1-2 paintings per day. Drawing is recommended as a prerequisite for the class, which is open to beginner and intermediate painters.
