A hands-on workshop to experience the magic of blacksmithing.
Join Joseph Paczosa of Telluride Forge at his Downvalley shop for a hands on introduction to blacksmithing, or forging. Experience how steel can be transformed and shaped with heat to create sculptural and functional objects (think: hammering, twisting, tapers, bends and splits). Students will learn about tools and handling, including proper anvil approach and care, basic hammer functions with hot steel, how to heat treat metals, and all the basic elements of a blacksmith shop.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Some previous hands-on experience with metals is required. Students must be age 25 or older (some exceptions apply) and should bring appropriate gloves and eye protection.
This class takes place near Placerville, west of Telluride.
